Clients, Who Are They Anyway?

Article that appeared in The New Leaf ™.

Since I began coaching almost two years ago, I've been curious about who my clients would be and what they would be like.

The first common characteristic that I noticed was that many clients were already successful either in conventional terms (earnings, respect) or in less traditional terms (artistry, spirituality).

I realized that most people who seek out a coach do so not just to shore up weaknesses but because they want to live up to their capacity to excel. After all, it's not the mediocre athletes or performers who invest in long term coaching-it's the real competitors who have the commitment, the vision and the discipline to find and use a coach.

Everyone I work with has weaknesses that they want to overcome. Most everyone finds it difficult to balance personal and professional commitments. Many clients seek a balance between careful planing and spontaneity. But what they all have in common is an extraordinary willingness to learn and grow.
