Most of us have the life we think we can have. We forget that we create our lives, and that every creation begins with a dream. As this year draws to a close, I invite you to dream up the New Year as your personal master work.
Imagine that you are Michaelangelo and that the rest of your life is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. What scenes will you unfold as you labor on the scaffolding day after day? What aspirations are so compelling that you will delight in giving them form? What gods will you invoke? What landscape will you create for them to dance across?
As you dream, forget what you have learned of being practical or reasonable. Allow your heart to have its way, and let it whisper to you of possibility, passion, and conviction.
Be patient, it might take some time for your dreams to come out of hiding. They may peek out from behind the heavy curtain of your doubts and fears, wanting reassurance that it is safe to step out on stage.
Once your dreams reveal themselves, study them. Memorize how they look, sound, feel so that you will recognize them as they take shape in the months and years ahead.
Dream great dreams, then you will do great things.
